REMINDER:   Daylight Savings Time begins at 2 AM tomorrow, Sunday, March 14.   Set your clocks ahead one hour, so you don't miss the last KGC Regatta of the season.

LADIES' LUNCHEON AND FASHION SHOW:   Thanks to the 124 ladies who attended the luncheon and style show at Jacaranda West Country Club on March 4.   Our lovely models were Joan Andrews, Ruth Ingerick, Leota Kelsey, Mary Porzio, Bev Purkey, Linda Varty and Carole Weber.   They did a super job!   The blessing was given by Mary Carpenter.   Pianist was Gwen Aldridge.   Styles were by A'Tu and Colleen Connelly, from the store, was the commentator.   Our work was made easy by our committee:   Barb Amatrudo, Judy Blow, Pat Cavalier, Mickey Fournier, Ann Franco, Reo Leach, Sue Simmons and Jeanne Winget.   Favors (purse-size kleenex holders) were made by Judy Blow and Martha Hicks.   Sandy McIntyre prepared the attractive programs.   And Nip Barker did the posters and tickets for the event.   A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL OF THE ABOVE PEOPLE WHO HELPED TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESSFUL EVENT!       --Posie Gallaher and Shirley Bethke
(And Reo Leach and Doris Dupler have volunteered to chair this event next year!!!)

EUCHRE:   If you play Euchre on Friday evenings, you know we have delicious "treats."   Last Friday, Lucy Kent (one of our newer residents) brought cookies which were so delicious that many asked for the recipe.
So, we asked her for the recipe and are printing it so that we can all enjoy it.

                 CHERRY ALMOND CHEWS
           1 cup shortening
           1 cup sugar
           1 cup packed brown sugar
           2 eggs
           3/4 tsp almond extract
           2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
           1 tsp baking soda
           1 tsp salt
           2-1/2 cups flaked coconut
3/4 cup chopped almonds or pecans, optional
1 jar (16 ounces) maraschino cherries, drained and halved
In a mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugars.
Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Beat in extract.   Combine the flour, baking soda and salt;
gradually add to the creamed mixture.
Stir in the coconut and nuts, if desired.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 in. apart
onto lightly greased baking sheets.
Place a cherry half in the center of each cookie.
Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes
(Lucy says to bake 15 minutes), or until lightly browned.
Remove to wire racks to cool.
Yield:  about 7 dozen.
They freeze well, so can be made ahead of time.
Thanks, Lucy.   Know many of us will enjoy the above recipe.

THOUGHTS:   Wish I could write about each person who works so hard for OUR Club.   Whether it is chairing or working on a committee, heading up an activity, or right now putting in an all-out effort for the Fair, it is wonderful.   And this is the spirit that makes KGC such a wonderful place to live!       --SJB
