DEAR KGC FRIENDS:   It feels like we've been gone from our home forever, but if all goes well, we will be back home shortly.   We've been at Sunset Lakes since early December.   The fractures on my (Jeanne's) pelvis have healed very well, and I'm able to get around with a walker.   We want to thank all of our friends for the many get well, and Christmas, cards.   It surely does help to know that so many people are thinking of you.   Where else could we be cared for so lovingly?       Warmest regards, Jeanne and Jim Steele

HEALTHLINE:   Ed and Irene West, 25 Castle Drive, are very appreciative of all the support, cards, prayers and loving concern, that was bestowed on them during Ed's recent surgery and convalescence.   They are extremely grateful, also, to the ladies of the Prayer Shawl Group, for Ed's very beautiful prayer shawl.   He uses it everyday and feels all its love, warmth and comfort.       ---Rose Jones

LYNN MOREY, JR passed away on December 25, 2009, in Sarasota.   There are still many of you who will remember that Lynn Morey started King's Gate RV Park.   Then, he had a vision which resulted in the building of King's Gate Club.   Because of his work, we are all enjoying the great place we live - KGC.   Thurman Sorrell said, about a year ago, someone brought Lynn Morey out here to have a look at the Club.   For either Club or Park residents, Lynn Morey, Jr. leaves a great legacy!

TELEPHONE DIRECTORY:   All owners and renters should have supplied the office with any changes for the new 2010 telephone directory.   If you didn't already do so, or have additional changes, please contact me at 484-5113, and I'll do my best to make final corrections.   Thank you.       ---Maureen Fitzgerald

Vail, from Texas.   J.D. was originally from Louisiana, so needless to say, he was excited his team won.   To anyone we may have missed, please accept our thank you for whatever you may have done to help us.

SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:   We were happy to see Deputy DeWayne Hill from the Crime Prevention Department of the Sheriff's office, at our Pancake Breakfast last Friday morning.   Had a nice chat with Deputy Hill and hope we may see more people from the Sheriff's office here in the future.

ROUND TABLE COMMITTEE:   At the Annual Meeting of the Round Table last Saturday, the following were elected as officers for the next year:
      Chairperson, Jim Purkey
      Vice-Chair, Don Lambiotte
      Secretary, Rosemary Holdway
      Treasurer, Linda Varty
We know that we will have a good year!   And, a special thank you to George Agricola, who retired from the Committee this year, after having served over the past years as Advisor, Vice Chair and Chairperson of the Round Table Committee.   Thanks, George, for all the work you have done for us.

PATRIOTIC NIGHT 2010, last Wednesday evening, was a HUGE success and was very well-attended.   Know we all learned from the Trivia Game, and we enjoyed the hot dogs, apple pie and lemonade.  Then the video, Many Faces of Old Glory, was absolutely fantastic.   We surely thank Chairman George Becker for planning this great evening, and his committee:   Liz Becker, Carol and Ray Angelo, Irene and Gary Pitt, Judy and Alan Morse, Sharon and Dave Lones, and of course "Uncle Sam."   And, it was nice to have Julie Walker give some information about the Canadian flag, too.   An evening like this makes us think of how fortunate we are to live in the United States (or Canada, for our Canadian friends).       ---SJB

CHARITY COMMITTEE appointments are as follows:   One Year - Gerry Coleman, Arlene Hyde and Loretta Brian.   Two Years - Jim Cook, Eleanor Barth and Mary Ann Diebold.

THOUGHTS:   We wish our Board of Directors and Round Table Committee another great year.   We are fortunate to have these people working for our benefit.   And, they are happy because there are so many willing volunteers in the Club.   So all of us can count our blessings and be happy that we are residents of King's Gate Club.       ---SJB

SKYPE DEMONSTRATION:   On Friday, 5th February, at the invitation of Wren McMains and Charlie Fote of the KGC Computer Club, I demonstrated the audio & visual communication capability of Skype.   I am told 92 people attended and 86 asked for a written, step by step, instruction set on how to install Skype on their computers. Instead of entering 86 e-mail addresses, an easier way of getting this message to the 86, as well as anyone else that couldn't make it, is via the KGC Newsletter.   Many thanks, Alan Holdway
Skype Download Instructions:   You will need a high speed internet service, web cam with microphone either built into your laptop or, a web cam with built in microphone that attaches via a USB port to your computer.   If you need to buy a web cam, I recommend either the Logitech C200 (approx $30), or the Microsoft VX-3000 (approx $27).   In both cases, the picture quality is more than adequate and both have a built in microphone.   These can be purchased at stores like Office Depot or online, like
In both cases, you will also need speakers, unless they are built in already. There is no charge and no limit as to the time you are on a call to anywhere in the world, with access to high speed internet service.
Type into your browser (Internet Explorer, Google, Firefox, etc.), search box, "Skype Download".   When the listings come up on your screen, either click on "Skype 4.1 for windows" if you have a PC, or click on "Skype for Mac" if you have Apple.   When the Skype webpage comes up on your screen, scroll down until you see "Download now", then click on it.
Another page comes up on screen.   Wait until you see at the top of that page "to help protect your security, click here for options", OR it may show, "This type of file can harm your computer; are you sure you want to download Skype?"   Up comes a box.   Click on SAVE.
Up comes another box, "A program needs your permission to continue"; click on Continue.   You now click on "click here for options"; then a box comes up and you click on "Download file"; then click on RUN.
Up comes a box asking you to select your language of choice; normally English is already there. You then click on "I agree - install".   The next box that comes up, I recommend you click on the little tick mark to the left of "Include Google Chrome" that removes the tick.   Click on "Continue installing Skype", and you will see the green bar progress from left to right as it installs.   After install is complete, click on finish.
After the install is complete, up comes "Create a new Skype account"   -   name, e-mail and Password (make a note of password).   Fill in the box including "Yes I have read and agree with...."; then, click NEXT.
Enter details in the box "name, e-mail, country, city". Now click on "Sign In".   Up comes" Hello and welcome to Skype"; follow the instructions that will test your Speakers, Microphone and Camera. Once that is complete, you can now click on "Find a friend".   You now need to get your family member/friend to download Skype, and once that is done, you can send an invitation to them asking to accept your invitation.   Once accepted, you are now able to call each other with both sound and vision; (yes you can turn the camera off and have sound only), and it's free of charge, for as long as you wish. Often times there are as many as 15-18 million people around the world, all using Skype at the same time. What a dramatic improvement over the carrier pigeon!
If your family member or friend has Skype installed already, then as long as you know their e-mail address, or Skype name, you can send the invitation.   As soon as they accept are ready to rock and roll.... HAVE FUN!       ---Alan Holdway
