PIZZA AND HORSE RACES PARTY:   This fun event last Saturday was a sold-out event.   Thanks to Mary and Bud Porzio for chairing this party.   Mary said so many people helped that it was impossible to list them all, but she wants all of you to know that she and Bud appreciate all your work.

MEN'S LUNCHEON:   Here are the bare details of the Men's Luncheon held in our Clubhouse on Monday, February 25.   (I say "bare details" because the lovely, lively Betty Comora wondered out loud if the men were disappointed that she didn't appear on stage popping out of a decorated cake!!).   98 tickets were sold, including 20 at neighboring King's Gate Park, so I'd call this year's edition a success.   After Gigi Conway and my significant other, Ruth, "volunteered" me to chair the event, Gigi also recruited Jim Walker to co-chair and Gene Fournier and Tom Logan to be on the committee.   Jim lined up Eric Hazeldine to collect the tickets, and Gene and Jim enlisted several other stalwarts to set up the hall, serve the food and serve as runners.   Without all of their MAJOR efforts, the luncheon would have been a disaster!   All I did was select the caterer, Sonny's BBQ in Venice, and line up the entertainment.   And who were they?   The leader, vocalist/pianist/washboard whiz Betty Comora I've known/heard locally for years through my many Sarasota Jazz Club sessions, and figured the washboard angle would be a novelty.   The post-luncheon comments I heard indicated that I was right!   The guitarist, Dave Trefethen, is fairly new to the Sarasota jazz scene, but is in great demand.   Dave has just returned to Sarasota after a few years in the northern hinterlands.   Jerry Miller is Betty's regular bassist, and he, Dave and drummer John Pickering make up Betty's quartet that can be found playing around Sarasota, Bradenton and elsewhere.   If you would like more details about them, just call me.   As to the caterer, Sonny's BBQ, Tom and Gene picked up the food at the restaurant and simply raved over great support and level of assistance displayed by Sonny's people. I didn't hear a single complaint about either quantity or quality of food from any of the diners.   I can only sing praises to all the folks who stepped in to assist in all areas.   KGC forever!       ---Don Paulson
(And thanks to Don and ALL those who worked with him on this successful event - good to have a Men's Luncheon again this year).

CLUB RULES:   Speed limit in the Club is 20 MPH.   Please observe this limit, especially as we will have many young visitors here in the next several weeks.   Also, no children under the age of 16 are allowed to drive golf carts.   Recently several young children have been seen racing in golf carts, without an adult in the cart.   This is an accident waiting to happen!

THOUGHTS:   Sometimes I think we all get so used to being in Florida and living at King's Gate Club that we take "our little bit of paradise" for granted.   We visit other areas around here and I'm always so glad to get back to KGC.   So, enjoy every minute that we are privileged to live here!       ---SJB
