News Ever get the feeling that your 'stuff' strutted off without you?

Vol. XXII, No. 27 King's Gate Club - a 55+ community, Nokomis, Florida July 11, 2009

WOW!!!   Hang on King's Gaters.   I think the club has just been launched into the twenty-first century.   There is a new era that we are about to enter.   If you are wondering what in the world I am talking about, you just missed the "First Annual" KGC Firecracker 500 Party.   Fortunately, approximately ninety of us were there to experience it first hand.   Tom and Martha Hicks chaired the event, and what an event it was.   The affair started at 3:00 PM, and went non-stop until 7:30 PM.   There were games, music, sing-alongs, food, and last but far from least, the KGC 500 race, where the betting saw lots of action.   The games (all eight of them) were played by everyone, and those that are physically challenged competed right alongside the "super jocks" in the crowd. Prizes were awarded, and not all of us were winners, but just being there was good enough.   I would be remiss if I didn't mention the new audio-video system.   This was actually its debut and was graded as excellent by even those that had their doubts.   Congratulations "Gaters", you did it up just fine.       --Jim Purkey   RTC Chairperson

THANK YOU to all who helped make the 4th of July Firecracker 500 a wonderfully, enjoyable day and evening.   Also thanks to all of the folks who came to the games to have fun on this 4th of July.   Without everyone's support and help, we could not have pulled this event off successfully.   Check the web site for pictures and congratulations to the Hat Parade Winners:   1st place went to Judy Leight and 2nd place went to Barb Amatrudo. The top point-winner for the day was Jerry Eagans, and he won two tickets to the play, "West Side Story" at the Venice Theater, donated by Irene Bette.   The 2nd place point-winner was a tie between Ed Carpenter and Todd Bartley; they had to have a dart game playoff, which Ed Carpenter won, so Todd took 3rd place.   The 2nd place prize was a $25.00 gift certificate to Publix, and the 3rd place prize was a $10.00 gift certificate to Publix.   We had 4 Car Races for the day, and it was a riot to see these six walkers decorated as race cars, along with their colorful drivers.   Also, the sound of racing engines in the background made it all sound so real.   We had all the fried chicken, coleslaw and rolls from Publix that you could eat, along with all of the wonderful side dishes that everyone brought along to share with their friends. Looks like the 2009 KGC Firecracker 500 will go down in the history books for the best attended, and participated in, 4th of July Celebration in the History of KGC.   There were 91 people who participated in the games and Car Races.   Thanks again.       --Tom & Martha Hicks

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY:   Don Richmond's son, Dale Richmond, 44 years of age, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly July 4th, 2009, in Columbus, Ohio.   Private service was held July 8th.   Don and Mary Lou are accepting e-mails, but request no phone calls at this time.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Angie Richards for taking over the job of Round Table Treasurer while I was gone.   Jack and I are back as full timers now, after selling our cabin in Michigan.   From now on you can direct all treasury related items to my clip at 51 King Arthur Dr. or my mail box in the office.   THANKS AGAIN Angie for doing a great job...........Linda Varty

SUMMER WELCOME COMMITTEE has not had many to welcome so far, the last few months.   We have had renters and visitors, as well as many children and grandchildren visiting their relatives.   I meet most of them at the pool, and a few have attended the Sat. social hour but few would like to be introduced.   I enjoy sitting at the welcoming table and talking with everyone passing by for coffee and donuts.   I have also had people sitting with me.   No new owners so far, but perhaps things will pick up.       --Martha Hicks, Summer Welcome
