May 24th, 2009, Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, The Wedding Singer.   In 1985 Robbie Hart is a New Jersey, favorite wedding singer, until his fiancee dumps him at the alter.   Broken-hearted Robbie becomes a disaster at every wedding he plays until he meets Julia, a waitress.   Julia is about to get married, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a lifetime.   This musical comedy takes us back to a time when neon was in, collars were up and the guy with the mullet hairdo may have been the coolest guy in the room.   Please sign up today so I can make reservations, $62.00 per person.
The best for last, we have been in all the Caribbean ports so I found a ship that you will not want to get off of, it offers so much, it is a brand new ship the "Oasis of the Sea", by Royal Caribbean.   This ship has a water theatre, the Boardwalk, and Central Park.   Please watch our 6 min. video, even if your not interested in cruising. Royal Caribbean does not work well with groups.  I have 9 cabins reserved and additional ones priced higher on request; the port charges and gov't. taxes must be added on.  This will be a trip you will remember for years to come.   The dates are Feb.20th-27th, 2010, a 7 night Eastern Caribbean Cruise.
Just want to thank everyone, including all my renters, that have traveled with us this past year.   You have made our travel season very successful.   If you have email and want to know what is coming up, you can check our web page, or leave me your email address, and I will see you get the information.   If you don't have email, leave me a stamped addressed envelope, and I will be glad to mail the upcoming shows and events.   Have a great summer.       -- Don and Mary Lou Richmond, Travel Coordinators, John and Sandy Eade, Travel partners.

RESIDENT PICTURES:   I apologize for the poor lighting caused by a combination of the low ceiling and failure of my light meter.   Light meter is now working; we'll try again, when I can schedule the clubhouse.       -- Wren

MISSING DVDS:   Owners and renters, please check your homes and DVD players for the following movies - some missing since 2008.   If not returned, I must delete them from our list.       -- Jean Ickes

AEROBICS CLASS:   I recently received the following e-mail from Bridget Duffy, daughter of Jack Duffy, who lives at Kings Gate Park.   Bridget wrote,  "Today I attended an extraordinary class at KGC with my young, athletic and handsome, 74 year old father, Jack Duffy.   It was created and led by Rosemary and Alan Holdway.   I have attended many exercise programs through my work in wellness and as a clinician.   This was one of the best-designed, comprehensive and enjoyable courses I have ever attended.   They are incredibly knowledgeable on the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system and translate that into a very effective program.   To call it an 'aerobics' class sells it way short of what it delivers.   It is a 'lifestyle' class that empowers you to live better.   If you have not attended, you are missing a program that will enhance your well-being and extend the quality of your life.   Thank you.   I cannot wait for my next visit so that I can attend."   Signed, M. Bridget Duffy, M.D., Chief Experience Officer, Cleveland Clinic.
      - Just had to share this high praise of the Holdways with all of you.       -  SJB

CHUCK HAMILTON:   Many of our residents work on programs outside the Club, that help to benefit the lives of other people.   This is true of Chuck Hamilton.   Chuck joined the Masons (along with his son), became a Master Mason in Mishawaka, IN, and then entered the Murah Shrine in Indianapolis (along with his son).   He often took patients to the Chicago Shrine Hospital.   Now he transports patients from Sarasota Sahib Shrine to the Shrine Hospital in Tampa.   The PULL TABS that come off your canned drinks or food cans go to raise money for wheelchair repair in the Shrine Hospitals.   The hospitals treat children from birth to 18 years old regardless of color, race, creed or national origin FREE of charge.   The surgeons give freely of their time and skill - volunteering at least one day a week.   Please turn in names of willing parents to help these children - the children will thank you!!!   We're proud of you Chuck - it's great to be helping in this very worthwhile program!       - SJB

LITERACY VOLUNTEERS:   On March 19th, 31 women from KGC attended the "Deal Me In" for Literacy, card and games party at Aston Gardens at Pelican Pointe.   Sandy McIntyre, reported that $1,000 was raised for Literacy Volunteers of South Sarasota County at this event.   Many King's Gaters won prizes in the "Teacup Auction" which was like the Super Raffle at the KGC Fair, but using teacups instead of shoe boxes to collect the tickets.   Four KGC women volunteer as tutors for adults who want to learn English as a Second Language (ESL):   Eleanor Barth, Betty Dowling, Ann Kellum, and Sandy McIntyre.   If you can read, write and speak English and you want to help someone, you could become a trained tutor.   Literacy Volunteers offers comprehensive training to prepare volunteers to tutor foreign-born adults in ESL.   Prior teaching experience or knowledge of another language is not needed.   If any men or women in King's Gate would like to know more about becoming a literacy tutor, contact Sandy McIntyre, 412-0107 (president of the organization), or talk to one of the other tutors about their experience.   This is another example of how our residents are reaching out to help other people.       -  SJB

THOUGHTS:   The annual KGC Fair is now a happy memory.   Again we were blessed with good weather on Friday afternoon, and Saturday was an absolutely gorgeous day.   Know that all who worked on the Fair - too many to mention individually - enjoyed it, and I am sure that new friendships were formed.   And, there is a good profit, which will benefit Round Table activities and the charities we support!   Do have to say a special thanks to Rex Ingerick, who was again Fair Chairman, for a job well done.   So many people working together accomplished something that is worthwhile.       - SJB
