THANKSGIVING DINNER:   Tickets now on sale for $7.00 each for turkey and trimmings.  Need volunteers for decorators, table hosts, kitchen and cleanup help.  Call Ernie and Judy Auerbach, 488-0968, 49 King Arthur.

8 ACRES:   Thursday I received a call from the County indicating that they had completed their appraisal of our 8 acres.  Because this is an on-going negotiation, it is in the Club's best interest that there be little or no public discussion until the negotiations are further along.  Within the next couple of weeks, our committee will again meet with them.  We'll keep you advised.  Remember loose lips sink ships (or in this case undermine our negotiating position).         --- Wren McMains for the BoD

KGC TRAVEL has scheduled Sunday matinee shows at the "Broadway Palm Dinner Theater " in Ft. Myers.   Bus round trip, buffet luncheon, show, taxes and tips - $52 each.

SUBS NEED FOR LADIES BILLIARDS:   We need more subs for league play for Ladies Billiards.  The sign up sheet is on the back bulletin board in the Clubhouse.  Our tentative start date is November 3rd.  We practice every Sunday evening at 7:00 PM.  It is a good idea to come to practice to get used to the new rules before league play begins.           --- Inez Mercer

PROPANE TANKS, BATTERIES, & WASTE OIL will not be accepted at the KGC Maintenance area anymore.  Residents are directed to Ferrell Gas, 509 Laurel Road, where discarded Propane tanks will be accepted.  On Jackson Road off Venice Avenue, there is a Recycle Center that will accept residential drop-offs on TUES, THURS & 2nd & 4th SAT between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM.  The old Bee Ridge Road Landfill also will accept residential hazardous waste on WED, THURS, FRI, SAT from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  The hazardous nature of these wastes prevents us from storing them onsite beyond Nov. 1, 2003.  You will need to discard your own hazardous waste (legally) from now on.  Sarasota County Hazardous Waste Disposal Information:  861-6743.           --- Mike Mooney, Manager

WATCH WHAT YOU FLUSH DOWN THOSE TOILETS!   PLEASE do not flush plastic, cloth, or padding materials because even small items cause problems with our sewer system.  We continue to waste your money on needless labor manhours to clear these objects which jam the Lift Station pump motors.  When a pump fails, the motor could be damaged; replacement motors are $900 plus!   Remember…it's your money.          --- Mike Mooney, Manager

ONCE UPON A TIME AT KING'S GATE……1987….. the year we took over the park:
The Homeowners Association will operate as the social organization of the park under the Board of Directors.  The membership elected the first executive committee consisting of Don Ranch, President, replacing Bob Coffin; Don King, Vice President, replacing Don Moriarty; Tom McMahon replacing Lenore Clark; Art Carlson replacing Cele Ball as Secretary; Thyra Simpson replacing Don Jensen as Treasurer; Brenda Coffin and John Bas replacing Howard Darbee and George McIntyre as members.
The 1987 directory of members was prepared by Marge Hufford.  Art Duhamel and his seven-piece orchestra played for the January dance, and the Ernie Lists band played for the Roses are Red Valentine dance.  The sixth annual Purkey's Porker Party was great as usual and the Sandy Riner Banjo Band put on a great show.  Dick Carlson and his crew are busy building the float for the St. Patrick's Day parade in Venice on March 14, and it won second prize.  Elmer Kuechen is getting ready for the annual bowling tourney at the end of March.  Vic and Lois Hill assures everyone that they will have a great time at the Clyde McCoy Sugar Blues show on April 13 under the direction of Johnny McCoy, Clyde's nephew.  Tickets are $4.  The shuffleboard Champs honored at the Second Sports Banquet for the 1986 and 1987 year were Jim Kelly, Ford Hurlbutt, Eleanor Carlson, Lorraine Moriarty, Helen Scott, and Val Mackas.   The Annual Fair gross income was over $21,000.  A great start for the NEW OWNERS of the King's Gate Club            --- Don Moriarty
